What is World Youth Day? World Youth Day (or in short ‘WYD’) is an international event, organised by the Church, for young Catholics from all over the world. It was initiated by Blessed Pope John Paul II in 1985. It is celebrated at diocesan level annually, and at an international level every two or three years

The 26th World Youth Day took place last August in Madrid, Spain. The Friars of the Dominican Order of Ireland organised a pilgrimage to Spain for young Irish people from the 12th to the 22nd of August. In addition to the week spent in Madrid, the pilgrimage included a few initial days of sightseeing in Spain
