Solemn Professions in Dublin

Congratulations to Br’s Patrick Desmond and Kevin O’Reilly on the occasion of their Solemn Profession. The Provincial, Fr. Gregory Carroll OP, received the profession of the two brothers during the 11.30 am Mass in St. Saviour’s Church, Dominick Street. Many family and friends of the brothers were present along with a large number of the brethren. The Province extends its congratulations and best wishes to Pat and Kevin, as well as prayers for their future.

By profession, a Dominican dedicates himself to God, following Christ by leading an evangelical life in the Order. In this way his baptismal consecration becomes more filly effective. By the profession of obedience he binds himself to live the evangelical counsels, renouncing certain things of undoubted value without detriment to true human development. He embraces Christ’s self-emptying while sharing in his life in the Spirit. So, by being faithful, he gives a clearer witness in the Church to the values of the kingdom of heaven. A Dominican also promises to obey the Virgin Mary in filial devotion. By profession a Dominican promises to be obedient to St. Dominic and be faithful to his spirit and project.
