800th Anniversary Mass

On Sunday 11 February, the Master of the Dominican Order, Fr Gerard Timoner OP, celebrated the Mass which launched this year’s celebrations of the 800th anniversary of the arrival of Dominican friars in Ireland.

Members of the Dominican family gathered for this Mass from around Ireland and beyond: sisters of the Cabra and St Cecilia Congregations; nuns from Siena Monastery, Drogheda; friars; lay Dominicans; members of Dominican youth groups; and many more. We were joined also by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dermot Farrell, and provincials of numerous religious orders.

In this atmosphere of grateful and joyful worship, the Master called on the Dominican family in Ireland to become better fishermen: working together, going out into deep waters, and mending our nets when necessary.

Some highlights of the liturgy, including brief interviews with those who attended can be viewed here.
