Simple Professions 2020

Yesterday we received four brothers into our noviciate when they received the Dominican habit. Today the brothers who spend a year in our Noviciate have made their First Profession to continue to the next step in their lives as as Dominicans.

They will now go to Dublin to start their studies in our Studium, which is in St. Saviour’s priory. They will study philosophy and theology for the next few years and, with the help of God, and subsequently to be ordained priests.

Please keep our brothers who have joined the Order yesterday and the three brothers who have now made profession into the Order in your prayers.

Habit Receptions 2020

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross is the traditional day that the new noviciate starts and the new novices receive their Dominican habit. This year four men joined the noviciate and received the habit during the 11 o’clock Mass.

Please keep our novices (and those discerning a vocation) in your prayers, that the Lord might continue to bless them and give them the graces that they require to perceive His call and to keep following it!

Ignite Catholic Conference 2020

Ignite 2020 is a free online Catholic Evangelisation conference taking place on the Pentecost weekend, Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May, to inspire, educate, and motivate all who attend to realise the beauty and depth of the Catholic faith, to live it to the full and to become true disciples who witness to the joy of their lived faith in their daily lives, helping others to come to know Jesus Christ.

This conference will help create a vision for how Catholics in Ireland can help renew the faith and help the Church through the current crisis.

Don’t miss out on all that our great speakers will have to share with us. For more information and to make your free booking go to www.domiminicanscork.ie.

Live Streaming

Even though churches are open for private prayer in most places, public Masses are still not permitted. As such various Dominican churches in the province make their Mass available through a live stream.

After St. Mary’s in Cork recently started using Youtube Live to stream various events from the church, Newbridge College now also has to same system installed. The live streams and schedules can be found on their respective websites, but also on the Dominican Youtube channel.

Please check with your local church if they broadcast their services or check the list below with Dominican churches with a live stream:

The Reception of the Habit 2019

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross is the traditional day in which new novices in the Irish Province of the Dominicans receive their habit and start their noviciate year.

Last year, on the 14th of September, four novices received their habit to start their noviciate year. Please find below a video of the event.

Dominican Student reaches out to help in Belfast Hospital

Bro Chris Gault OP is a Dominican Brother studying philosophy in NUI Maynooth. But since the college is closed, he answered the call to return for a while to his former career as a doctor in Belfast to help cope with the Coronavirus pandemic.

Over eight hundred years Dominicans have always reached out to the sick and suffering. Bro Chris follows in the footsteps of great Saints like St. Dominic, St Catherine, St Martin the Porres and St. Vincent Ferrer. We pray for bro Chris for his ministry at this time and for all those who are sick and suffering especially during this pandemic.

Fenning Collection

Most of the books in the late Fr Hugh Fenning’s office have been catalogued. Attention is now centred on his extensive collection of pamphlets, offprints, and booklets on Dominican, Franciscan, and Augustinian history.

Over the years, Fr Hugh had the material bound in volumes with his “H.F.” on the spines. The largest collection, the green volumes, relates to Irish Dominican material. Augustinian material was bound in red and Franciscan material in brown.

As a precaution and in light of HSE advice, the librarian is working from home.
