Yesterday was the annual Dominican pilgrimage to the Marian shrine at Knock, Co Mayo. This is traditionally the last official big pilgrimage of the season, and the Dominican pilgrimage each year consistently attracts large numbers from all around the county.
So, also yesterday several thousand people were present at Knock Shrine for the event. The pilgrimage gave opportunity to availe of the sacrament of reconciliation, the celebration of the sacrament of the sick, the celebration of the eucharist and finished with the rosary procession.
This years preacher was Fr Anthony Morris OP of the Sligo community, who gave us a wonderful homily on Our Lady, and her central role among the people of God.

The Irish Dominicans joyfully celebrated the first profession of eleven brothers of the province who have just completed their novitiate year. The event took place during the celebration of the Eucharist at Saint Mary’s priory church at Pope’s Quay in Cork. The eleven brothers made profession in the hands of the prior of the novitiate community, Fr Edward Conway OP. A large number of Dominican friars gathered to celebrate the event along with the families and friends of the newly professed brethren. Having completed the novitiate and made profession, these eleven brothers will now move to the student house of the Irish Dominican province at Saint Saviour’s, Dublin. Please keep these young Dominican friars in your prayers and those who will accompany them through their formation. Below is a selection of images from the memorable and historic event for the Irish Dominican friars.

The Irish Dominican friars received two novices into the Order today at a ceremony during the celebration of Mass at Saint Mary’s Priory church, Pope’s Quay Cork. Brothers Paul Mary Hughes (Westmeath and St. Helen’s, Liverpool) and Conall Mary O’ Callaghan (Donegal) were clothed in the Dominican habit by the prior of the novitiate house of the Irish province, Fr. Edward Conway OP. Our new novices were joined by many of the Dominican brethren from around the Irish province along with their friends and families in a simple ceremony. Below are some images from the clothing ceremony.
The Novices for the coming year will receive their habit on Tuesday the 14th of September, on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
On the next day, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, our current novices will make their Simple Profession. Please keep all these men in your prayers, especially over these two important days.
Soon after the event we will publish some photo’s and video’s capturing these two joyful occasions.

My apologies for the late newsflash, we have been on our annual retreat fort he last week. But on Sunday, September 5, 2010 the Dominican Friars gathered together in General Chapter in Rome to elected Fr. Bruno Cadoré O.P., of the Province of France, as the new Master of the Order of Friars Preachers and the 86th successor to St. Dominic.
Fr. Cadoré taught at the Catholic University of Lille. Being trained as a physician he taught especially in the area of bio-medical ethics before becoming Provincial of the Province of France.
Please join the whole Dominican Order in praying for Fr. Cadoré, that by the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Dominic, he may serve the Order and the Church with wisdom and prudence.

The General Chapter of the Dominican Order has started on September 1st and will finish on 21st September 2010. One of the tasks of this Chapter will be to elect the 87th Master of the Order, which will happen on Sunday the 5th of September. This will be the 290th General Chapter in the history of the Order.
The General Chapter, which is the highest authority in the Dominican Order, is an assembly of friars representing the Provinces of the Order, coming together to discuss and define matters pertaining to the good of the entire Order.
If you would like to keep up to date on the happenings at the General Chapter, there is a dedicated website which is: http://www.curia.op.org/roma2010/. We will occasionally post a brief reflection on the proceeding of the chapter by one of the priest present at the chapter to represent the Irish Province.

We have moved the Dominicans Interactive website to http://www.dominicansinteractive.com. The main reason for this is that the .com (and also the .org) domain names will aim more on an international audience than a .ie domain name. All links to Dominicanfriars.ie will still work and will be redirected accordingly to Dominicans Interactive.
A new short video is just added to the website and shows a few excerpts from Morning Prayer which was celebrated in the Dominican Priory in Tallaght as part of the celebration of the end of the Year for the Priests.
