The Irish Dominicans came to Iran in 1962 and St Abraham’s House was founded in 1966. It continues a Dominican presence in Iran which reaches back to the 13th century. The Dominican church serves the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary which provides religious services and a support centre for a multinational English speaking community in Tehran. There are only four Catholic priests of the Latin Diocese in this great city of some 15 million people.
At present there is only one Dominican assigned to the house. However as Iran provides a challenging and enriching environment, St. Abraham’s welcomes Dominican visitors from different provinces who are engaged in Islamic, cultural and language studies and provides a resource centre for them.
