Priory of St Malachy, Dundalk, Co. Louth

St Malachy’s is in many ways a typical small Dominican community in Ireland. It is primarily a centre of liturgical preaching.

The friars here are strongly dedicated to the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation all year round. St Malachy’s is the only Dominican priory in Ireland to have responsibility for primary schools; these have a high enrolment.

There is a thriving Youth Centre attached to the priory. As in all Dominican communities in Irish towns, there is a very strong bond between the friars and the local people.

The best known Dominican apostolate in Dundalk is the Rosary Centre which houses the Rosary Apostolate. The centre is a hive of activity for many groups dedicated to the promotion of the rosary.
